Titanic II: To Ride or Not to Ride?

A billionaire has built a replica of the RMS Titanic (see the article) and it is slated to sail in 2018. I wonder if they will completely flout fate and sail its maiden voyage for April 10?

To ride or not to ride? That is the question. Not that I could afford it, this is strictly a rhetorical question, but is an interesting quandary. On the one hand, statistically, it should be safe. It should also technologically be safe. I mean, what are the odds that TWO Titanics would sink on their maiden voyage? Right?

On the other hand, the first Titanic was also supposed to be "technologically safe" too and my primitive, superstitious inner monkey-brain thinks it goes against all sense of self-preservation to ride anything that is modeled after such an ill-fated ship.

  1. I would definitely be way too paranoid to ride on the second Titanic. The whole time that I would be on the ship, I would be thinking about the first Titanic and when it sunk. I would be way to scared!

  2. I probably would ride on the replica of the Titanic. The boat seemed so cool and I would love to be a risk taker and test the waters. I think technology is far more advanced in 2016 than in the 1920s so the boat and the rescue situation would be better. The titanic was legendary and I would be riding the next thing close to it!

  3. Would I ride on this replica of the Titanic? Absolutely. Maybe it's just me but I really enjoy traveling and seeing what the world has to offer. I have been on several cruises and this can be a similar experience. Though I may be a little scared because of what happened to the first Titanic, I am sure i'll get over it and enjoy once I were to board.

  4. Since I like living, I don't think I would be the one to ride on the Titanic II. The first ship sunk because it was poos in design, so if this ship is an exact replica, I assume it would suffer the same fate. I'm just saying...

  5. I would definitely not ride because I watched titanic and that is scary plus i never been on a boat so that would not be my first choice of float.

  6. People make "replicas" or replacements many things such as, the Freedom Tower even. Just because the original ship was unsuccessful, does not mean the new ship will be as well. It was just an unfortunate fate. The first Titanic was not built with the best material; and with the new technology, an iceberg would be seen sooner than it was almost a century ago. If I were interested in taking a trip across seas, the Titanic II would fit my interest, although I would feel like something bad should happen.

  7. Riding the replica of the Titanic is a major dub for me! I personally wouldn't even enjoy the cruise anyway because i would be one second from a heart attack the whole time.

  8. Knowing what happened to the first Titanic, I do not think I would be able to ride the second one they made. To many people lost their lives and while I'm on the ship I would just have a flash back on what happened to the first Titanic.

  9. I would be hesitant at first to ride the Replica Titanic just because such a tragedy happened when the ship was first created, but if someone persuaded me to ride it I probably would. Also, there are cruise ships now and the same technology they use to create cruise ships they will probably use for the Replica Titanic or even better equipment.

  10. I definitely would not ride the replica of the Titanic. The first Titanic was supposed to be safe and look what happened. Since it is the future, there should be better technology and better material that would make the Titanic replica able to make its voyage. Anyone riding it can tell me how it goes, though. I would not ride it.

  11. I definitely would ride the replica of the Titanic more so out of curiosity because I wasn't alive to see the first one. From what I know about the first one it was beautiful and extravagant, if the second one is the same I would love to see it with my own eyes. People say they will not get on it because it is not safe, planes are not safe but people still ride them everyday.

  12. Yeah this is definitely a joke right? Did the billionaire not see my favorite movie, The Titanic, and the catastrophe it led too. I pray for the future passengers and hope this time the titanic sails smoothly. But to be honest, I would take the risk.. So I can meet my Jack lol.

  13. I feel that the Titanic 2 would be safer because we have better technology to detect if there is an issue that could trouble the boat. I would love to ride on the boat if I ever could get the opportunity.
