Common Weight Lifting Mistakes

Weight lifting is very commonly performed wrong by many people across the world. No one will be perfect with the exercise but there are ways to better yourself with it. The mistakes that are usually made involves: overtraining, cheating, and lifting too heavy too soon to name a few.

First off there is overtraining, in my opinion this is the most common mistake. Sometimes people want to see results instantly so they go to the gym and workout too often and too long. For results to show you have to take rest days for the muscles to rebuild.

Next up is cheating, it isn't the type of cheating that usually comes to mind though. This type  of cheating is done by doing reps or lifting the wrong way. When you do any type of exercise it is important to perform the exercise correctly. For example when bench pressing, you shouldn't have the bar bounce off of your chest, instead it should slightly touch your chest, I see this exercise performed incorrectly daily.

Finally one of the biggest mistakes is to lift too heavy too early. When lifting, you have to work your way up to heavy weight by to training your muscles by consistently lifting lower weights with high reps. So don't jump in head first with weight lifting it could lead to injury in severe cases.

Does anyone know any other common weight lifting mistakes? If so feel free to share!

  1. Some other mistakes can be using the wrong technique on exercises. Also a lot of people don't do a warm-up stretch before they lift which can tighten the muscles.

  2. Other mistakes people make while weight lifting are not having the right posture. You won't get the right results out of a squat if you are not going down all of the way or not straightening your back out. I've injured myself in weight training by doing #3: lift too heavy, too early.

  3. there are professional trainers that aren't correctly training athletes. in the SEC, in particular, trainers often times force athletes to over exert themselves i dont think its healthy at all. the take high school boys and do any and everything to get them big in order to be competitive, but they dont realize the harm they are doing them sometimes. I know boys that have died on the field, and my boyfriend has been hospitalized due to over exerting himself. you are completely right, and i feel like trainers should be more closely monitored.
