Today, a Virginia state trooper and gunman are dead after a shootout at a Greyhound bus terminal in Richmond Thursday that wounded two others, state police said. Virginia State Police Superintendent Col. Steven Flaherty said Trooper Chad Dermyer, 37, was shot multiple times near the restrooms of the building. Dermyer was dressed in a fatigue-style uniform and was not wearing a protective vest. Flaherty said investigators don't know what sparked the shooting. Dermyer had been participating with about a dozen other troopers in a training exercise at the bus station when a brief encounter with the gunman quickly turned violent, he said.
Just to think that at any time in this job someone could just decide to pull the trigger before you retain their weapon is frightening.
Do you guys think this career is safe with all of the police controversy going on today? Would you aspire to be a police officer? Why or why not? Why do you believe some people have began to dislike police?
I do not believe this career is safe at this point of time. A lot of people dislike police and are coming for them. However, even though they are bad at times, they are ultimately here to help. If someone wanted to be a police officer I wouldn't dissuade them because we need police. I would never want to be a police officer. It is way to dangerous and I don't agree with many parts of the law so I would just let some people just get by on minor stuff. So therefore, I wouldn't be a good officer. People began to dislike police because they do a lot of racial profiling, stereotyping, and unnecessary police brutality. It seems as if they are harming society now more than ever.
ReplyDeleteBeing a police man has never been a safe job. most police dont get into this line of work expecting for it to be safe. it is a service. their job is to protect and serve, and that is exactly what they signed up to do.i know i wouldnt want anyone i love to be police because of how its been lately, but the world does need more genuine cops that understand the severity of their place in the community.
