A$AP Rocky was part of a hip hop group that was established in Harlem NY in 2007 called the A$AP Mob.
The acronym 'Always Strive and
Prosper' is what distinguishes them as being apart of the group. In 2011, His E.P. on YouTube 'Deep
Purple' was released and that is what got his name out. Shorty after, his single
'Peso' was leaked and was all over Hot 97 New York radio station
as well as getting on the charts of the US R&B. Rocky was getting noticed by different record labels after showing his music video for the track
'Purple Swag' and soon released his 'Live. Love. ASAP' mixtape which landed him a record deal with RCA Records and Polo Grounds Music. Later on in the year, he was nominated for the BBC's annual 'Sound of 2012'
poll. In 2012, he opened for Drake on his Club Paradise Tour alongside
Kendrick Lamar. He later also performed at Pitchfork Music Festival. In
that same year, his homeboy and A$AP Mob group member A$AP Twelvyy was accused by Rocky's
former collaboration partner SpaceGhostPurrp (a member from the group Raider
Klan) for attacking another member of Raider
Klan's Matt Stoops and Space with a YouTube video showing
he was cutting off any ties with the A$AP collective. He was later on alleged to be copying the Raider's style of music and taking a few of their lyrics. In September, he made a guest
appearance at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards during Rihanna's performance. He released his debut album 'Long. Live. ASAP' in
2013. The album
reached number 1 on all the US Album chart as well as the R&B and Rap
charts and even the UK R&B chart.

A$ap Rocky, along with the help of A$ap Yams, helped to pioneer a new form of marketing through the internet. A$ap Yams went on tumblr with an anonymous identity to help get Rocky's name out there. This same strategy is used today but other up and comers such as Lil Yacthy, Lil Uzi, and Playboi Carti.
ReplyDeleteI think that there isn't much more for Rocky left to do in the rap game as just last year he got another number one title for the album AtLongLastA$ap. One thing that he is doing currently is helping Atlanta rapper Playboi Carti in his music career by signing him to his label. And helping him to come up. Sort of, not exactly, the way Yams did for Rocky.
I love ASAP Rocky and he is my favorite from the ASAP group. I admire his music style, voice, appearance, and his intelligence. I think ASAP rocky needs to release a new single that can put him back on the charts. Or maybe he should collaborate with someone and create a new sound for the fans to hear.
